Cruising Freedom was founded by Joshua Lee and is currently operated by Humble Atlas (The Ordinary Trade Pty Ltd). This policy sets the standards for our sailing guides, destination coverage, cruise updates and profiles.
Reporting and research
We distinguish personal experience, researched information and opinion. A writer should only describe a voyage, anchorage or product test as first-hand when they actually experienced it. Research-based comparisons must not imply that we have sailed a boat, visited a destination or tested equipment when we have not.
For factual claims, we look for original sources such as maritime authorities, manufacturers, port operators, published interviews and the people or organisations concerned. We identify uncertainty and date information that can change. A creator’s audience size or boat purchase price does not establish their personal income or net worth; financial estimates need a clear source and appropriate context.
Safety and changing conditions
Our articles help readers research a topic. They are not navigational instructions, current charts, weather forecasts or personalised seamanship advice. Writers should make the limits of route and anchorage information clear and direct readers to relevant official information. Port rules, access, depths, facilities and local conditions can change after publication.
Editorial independence and commercial disclosures
Advertising and affiliate referrals can support this publication. A qualifying purchase through an affiliate link may earn us a commission. We identify affiliate relationships, sponsorship, gifted equipment and hosted travel where relevant to an article. Commercial involvement must not be disguised as independent reporting or determine a promised positive verdict. An advertisement does not mean that our writers recommend its product.
AI-assisted work
Our workflow includes AI assistance with research, writing, editing and some visual material. The person preparing an article remains responsible for checking facts, links, quotations and attribution. Generated output is not evidence of an event or a substitute for practical experience. We do not invent sources, interviews, credentials or personal experiences.
Materially generated or altered imagery should carry an accompanying explanation when it could otherwise be mistaken for documentary photography. Routine resizing or colour correction does not require the same treatment. Important uses of generated material that affect a story’s interpretation should also be disclosed in that story.
Images, sources and contributions
Use of photographs, video and quotations must respect the rights of their creators. An image found online is not automatically available for reuse. Illustrations cannot substantiate a claim that someone sailed a particular route or tested a boat. Contributors must identify their sources, relevant commercial interests and substantial AI assistance. Publication rights and any payment are agreed separately for accepted contributions.
Corrections and the archive
Send corrections through our contact page, including the article URL, the disputed detail and a supporting source where possible. We review substantiated concerns and correct errors. Significant factual revisions should explain what changed. Updating a page’s design alone is not a reason to imply its reporting has been refreshed.
Older articles may predate these standards. We apply them as we review the archive; publication of this policy does not mean every historical claim has already been rechecked.
