Who is responsible
Cruising Freedom, at cruisingfreedom.com, was founded by Joshua Lee and is currently managed and operated by Humble Atlas (The Ordinary Trade Pty Ltd). In this policy, “we” and “us” refer to that operator. This policy covers personal information handled through the publication, reader enquiries and available website features.
For privacy enquiries, email cruisingfreedom@protonmail.com, addressed to the Privacy Officer, The Ordinary Trade Pty Ltd. You can also find our contact details on the contact page.
Information received from you
Messages, comments and submissions can include your name, email address, website, biography, photographs and anything else you choose to provide. If you use an available subscription or account feature, we also receive the details needed to provide it. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information or private details about others. Uploaded photographs may contain location metadata.
Comments submitted for publication can be publicly visible, including the display name and any linked website. WordPress may send a hash of your email address to Gravatar to find an associated avatar. A hash is not necessarily anonymous. See Automattic’s privacy notice. Spam-prevention services may process comments and technical information to detect abuse.
Technical information and its uses
Delivering the site generates records such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser and device details, timestamps, referral information and security events. Cookies and similar technologies may store preferences, recognise a session or help measure advertising and readership.
We use information to operate and secure the site, respond to readers, assess submissions, moderate comments, investigate errors and complaints, understand use of the publication, administer advertising and affiliate referrals, and meet applicable legal obligations. An enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to marketing. If you have requested updates, use their unsubscribe control or contact us to stop them.
Advertising, analytics and external media
Cruising Freedom uses Raptive for advertising where ads are enabled. Raptive and its partners may collect device, browser, identifier and usage information for advertising and measurement. Read the Raptive Advertising Privacy Statement for its practices and choices. Advertising may be disabled in a staging or test version of the site.
Google Analytics, where enabled, helps measure visits, referrals and interactions. See Google’s Privacy Policy and the Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Embedded YouTube videos and other external media can communicate with their providers when loaded or used, including where you have an account with that provider.
Affiliate links can use tracking to associate a referral with a purchase. External websites have their own policies. Their practices do not replace our responsibilities for information we handle.
Cookies and your choices
Browser settings can block or remove cookies, although this may affect some features and does not erase information already received by a provider. Where a consent panel or advertising privacy control is available, use it to review or change your choices. These controls may be browser- or device-specific. Reading the site or agreeing to its terms is not itself consent to optional tracking where consent is legally required.
Some advertising activity may count as sale, sharing or targeted advertising under applicable US laws. Use available ad privacy controls or contact us about an applicable opt-out. We respect legally required opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control where applicable. The older Do Not Track setting should not be assumed to block all processing.
Sharing and overseas services
Hosting, security, email, publishing, analytics and advertising providers process information needed for their services. Relevant information may also be provided to advisers or authorities for legal requirements, disputes or security matters, or to a business successor with appropriate protections.
We operate from Australia and use services that may process information in other countries, including the United States. Locations depend on the provider. Applicable cross-border safeguards remain required. Contact us for details relevant to a particular request. External editorial tools, including AI services, must not receive unnecessary private correspondence or sensitive material without an appropriate assessment and lawful basis.
Retention and security
We retain information for its operational purpose and any necessary legal, rights-management or complaint records. Public comments may remain while the discussion is published. Subscription suppression records may be retained to respect an opt-out. Enquiries and submissions are kept as needed for handling and follow-up; technical records have service-dependent retention periods.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it, subject to legal requirements and backup schedules. Reasonable safeguards reduce risk but cannot guarantee absolute online security. We make breach notifications where legally required.
Your rights and complaints
Contact us to request access, correction or another applicable privacy right, or to complain. Explain the information or activity involved. We may need proportionate verification and cannot always identify browser records from a name alone. We respond within the deadlines required by applicable law and explain any lawful restriction or extension. You may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where it has jurisdiction.
Where EU or UK law applies, lawful bases can include necessary legitimate interests, contract, legal obligation and consent, depending on the activity. Relevant rights may include access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection and withdrawal of consent. You may complain to your local supervisory authority. Where US state privacy laws apply, rights may include access, correction, deletion, targeted-advertising or sale/sharing opt-outs and appeal of a decision. Contact us with “Privacy appeal” to request an applicable review. We do not unlawfully discriminate against people exercising their rights.
Children and policy changes
This is a general-interest publication, not a service directed at children under 13. Contact us about a child’s information or a privacy concern in an article so we can assess it. We revise this policy as our practices change, identify the effective date and provide additional notice or seek consent where required. A policy revision does not retrospectively authorise a new use of information.
